"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” Matt 5:14 (NASU)

When we think of ourselves or anyone else in the Church we do not see ourselves as (light beings). We definitely can see the darkness of sin in our own lives, but certainly not being, “The light of the world!” No, we tend to leave that title for the Lord Jesus Himself, but how can we argue with God? If God, Who cannot lie has said that we are the light of the world, then we are! In the beginning God said, “Let there be light.” On day one of creation the spiritual light of Who and what God is was released into the world before there was natural light, because that is what the world needed most. The natural light was created on day four, and not on day one, for it was Jesus Who was revealed as the light of world on the first day. Then when He came to save us from our sin, death, and darkness Jesus came as Light to mankind again to light the way out of darkness, by delivering us from sin.

“Through our God’s most tender mercy, which causes the Sunrise to visit us from Heaven, to shine on those in darkness, living in the shadow of death…” Luke 1:78-79 (CJB)

Now once again the Creator of the universe says, “You are the light of the world!” When Jesus spoke this there was only darkness in the earth (man’s heart) as there was only darkness on day one of creation. But we the new creation have begun anew when the Father’s Sunlight from heaven shone in our heart to be the light of the world. “…What matters is being a new creation.” Gal 6:15 (CJB). This is where we are born again as a new creation and are given a new beginning in the light of God, even as He is the light, so are we!

When are we really going to start believing what Jesus said, and start shining as He has called us to be light in a dark place? If there was no darkness in the world the light would not be needed, but we the light are needed or we would not be here. We need to have an attitude adjustment and start seeing ourselves as we are, “The light of the world” rather than seeing all the darkness that the enemy and our flesh want to throw in our face to blind use to the truth of who we really are.

"Arise, shine; for your light has come,

And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

"For behold, darkness will cover the earth

And deep darkness the peoples;

But the Lord will rise upon you

And His glory will appear upon you.

"Nations will come to your light,

And kings to the brightness of your rising.

Isa 60:1-3 (NASU)

Our light has come, the glory of the Lord has been revealed through the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts. Now what are we doing with it? A flashlight left in the closet is useless in the dark unless it is brought out to shine! We are in the darkest era of humanity I believe, we must let His light shine through us so that the glory of the Lord will be seen upon us to change mankind from darkness to light. Nations will come to OUR light, the Father has spoken it.

I recently had a prophetic experience that has helped me to understand our calling as light beings. We the Church are waiting to shine, when in fact we are already shining as the light of the world because we are the new creation for all to see the truth of Who Jesus Christ really is. We must light the way to Him for others!

In this prophetic experience I was sitting before the Lord and I could feel His presence come over me. I then saw a house of light come and move upon me and remain. I cannot say it was a huge house, but His presence increased greatly with His fire and glory upon me. I didn’t move into the house, the house moved into me! I then asked the Lord for revelation on this in the Bible, He then opened my understanding to the Feast of Tabernacles.

In the Old Testament there was what was called, The Feast of Booths, it is found in Leviticus 23. One time a year Israel was to make a hut or a small dwelling for the entire family to sit in the presence of the Lord to seek His face and to rejoice and be thankful for the year’s harvest. This small house was for intimacy with the living God for one week.

In the New Testament we also have a place of intimacy in the spirit realm that we are called to dwell in. Jesus said in John 14:2, “In my Father’s house are many places to live. If there weren’t, I would have told you; because I am going there to prepare a place for you.” (CJB). With the death of Jesus He has prepared us a place in the realms of God for us to dwell with Him anytime we want. We can have as much of God as we want, if we will draw near, He has promised to draw near to us. This is His promise that I have found to be true if we will just make the effort to be there with Him, just as Israel had to take the time to build a booth and sit in it, and wait upon Him, so must we. Our God changes not!

Jesus has made a way for us to enter a spiritual habitation so that we can gaze upon the Father and receive grace for our time of need. But the thing of it is, when we start spending time with Him our needs change from worldly to being spiritual. What I mean by that is, Jesus said, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” Matt 6:33 (NASU). Because of our seeking God daily we will find that our physical needs are being met in Him as He promised. Our spiritual needs will also be met in our life, like joy, peace, and the love of God being felt and manifested in our daily life. This is when life gets exciting because we are living in a new realm that most Christians know little of. We humans are actually spiritual beings that are having a natural experience with needs in both realms. If these needs are not being met in either realm, hope and vision will disappear from our lives, which are then looked for in other areas that can become addictive and destructive to a happy life.

All of our needs can only be met by us spending time with Jesus as He opens the heavens for to us to see things that we could not even imagine existed before by opening a whole new paradigm for our new creation lives. Oh hallelujah, what a great God we serve! I am convinced why so many people in the Church are bored with the things of God is because they stopped seeking to go deeper and higher in God by seeking Him daily.

The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. Rev 21:23 (NKJV)

When I think of a city, I think of buildings, roads, bridges, and of course people, without people there would be no use of having anything else in the city. However, the Bible never says anything about there being any buildings in the New Jerusalem, only that there is one street with the tree and river of life that are in it. It does sound like a peculiar city until you realize that it’s a spiritual city and not a natural one like we would see in our minds eye.

We must come to understand that the spirit world controls this natural one that we live in. Right now evil powers of darkness rule over planet earth and its people. But one day very soon they will be displaced from the second heaven, and when this happens the city of God will come down in power to rule over the earth in righteousness and truth in spirit. The light/truth of God is going to shine so much so that the Bible says the nations will bring their glory into it. “The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.” Rev 21:24 (NASU)

This city will be known for its light and glory, for it will be a shining city set on a hill that cannot be hidden, the glory of God will illuminated it. The Lamb of God will be its light. People may think New York City and Las Vegas are the cities of light where no one sleeps, but I tell you there will be no comparison to the city of God!

There is a great future for the people of the earth when God sets it free into the liberty of the sons of God. You and I are being prepared for this wonderful day of shining, our whole life is a set up by God to prepare us for this great day of the Lord. Do not be discouraged by your trials, they are the very thing that God is using to make you into the likeness and light of Jesus.

There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. Rev 22:5 (NKJV)

Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. Matt 13:43 (NASU)

The Lord will shine forth His glory through a people prepared to shine, and somehow through this shining we will reign throughout the universe to bring the Kingdom of God to the ends of His domain. What an amazing destiny we have in Jesus!

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Matt 6:21-23 (NASU)

Our spirit man is the heart of who we really are. Our heart is our spiritual eyes to see and live in the spirit realm with God, just as I need goggles to scuba dive to see under water, so I need my spirit man to be quickened by God for me to see and understand spiritual things. The Bible calls people who do not have the eyes of their understanding enlightened, spiritually undiscerning or in other words, they do not see, believe, or understand a thing about the spirit world, for they are fleshly. “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Cor 2:14 (NKJV)

We are spirit beings born in a natural body, but because of the fall of Adam our relationship with God has been severed since the fall. But with the cross of Jesus once again we can begin to live in and out of the spirit realm with the Holy Spirit and learn to walk in the spirit as Adam did in the beginning. “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” Gal 5:16 (NKJV). Only as a born again Christian can we hope to learn how to walk in the spirit with God and not just in the natural.

The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. Matt 6:22 (NASU)

In 1996 I was praying in my study and Jesus walked through my door and stood in front of me. I was not overly shocked because it was the third time within a few months that He had done this. But this time I asked Him, “Why can I not see you with my natural eyes?” For each time He came to me in spirit form and not with a natural body. He then said, “You do not need to see me with your natural eyes because the eyes of your spirit have been enlightened.” Immediately Ephesians 1:18 came to me. “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” With our spiritual eyes opened we can see and understand the things of God, like the Bible and the Holy Spirit’s work and guidance in our life. With our spiritual eyes opened, we now have hope restored to us, we know the riches of His glory and what is our inheritance in Christ for all eternity, like,  being the light of the world.

Having our spiritual eyes open, means to have prophetic vision, this is to see into the realms of God for our future and the future of others. Without a prophetic vision or revelation from God people perish because they have no hope or destiny to guide their lives with and are just drifting along in life feeling empty. Prophetic revelation is spiritual guidance, this is what the church needs desperately to have hope for today in this fear filled world. To have our eyes opened means that we can see that glory of God to be changed from glory to glory in His presence. Without this in my daily life I think I would just go into despair because of what I see in the world around me and what I see in my own heart that is not Christ like.

If our spiritual eyes are clear like a clean window they will allow the light of Jesus, the Word and Spirit of God to shine into our heart every day that we seek Him in the spirit realm. “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness” Matt 6:23 (NASU)! But if our spiritual eyes are not clear or cleaned through daily repentance and the washing of the word our vision will be blurred like a dirty window. It is so important that we stay close to the Lord by turning to Him when we do wrong to clean our heart and to have a close ongoing relationship with Him.

Jesus said in Revelation 3:18, “I advise you to buy from Me… eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.” We must pay the price in following Jesus where ever He may lead us, for this is the price that He is asking us to pay so that He may give us spiritual eye salve that we will see clearly into the spirit realm where He is. For that is where our true life is to be found, as He shines into our darkness with truth. “In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not suppressed it.” John 1:4-5 CJB

If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Matt 6:21-23 (NASU)

This verse has troubled me for years and I have asked the Lord the meaning of it. I believe He has given me a little more insight into this verse that has helped me greatly.

Light is the truth of Jesus in our spirit-man, so then darkness is not having the understanding of the truth of Christ. “Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart” Eph 4:18 (NKJV).

Ignorance means that we still do not have the full understanding of the truth of Christ and some darkness still remains in our mind. Darkness is deception that is remaining because we are not seeing the fullness of Christ because our humanness is still getting into way of our relationship with Him and we are not seeing all things through His eyes.

So how can the light be darkness? It’s really quite simple when we think of it, for instance. In the beginning the Catholic Church had the truth of Christ handed down to them through the patriarchs of the church in Rome when Paul was still alive when he was imprisoned there. But over the centuries the truth became clouded with much mixture when worldly religion and paganism came into their teaching and their spiritual eyes were darkened. Because they did not center their faith on Christ alone, but on past down rituals and traditions of man. Rather than people being born again through the acceptance of Jesus in their heart, they went with the worship of Mary and transubstantiation. Which means the communion bread literally become the fleshly body of Jesus and the wine becomes the real blood of Jesus, which is full darkness and a lie. Their light has become darkness.

Now we could go on with the Lutheran Church and the truth that Martin Luther brought forth as a Catholic Priest some 500 years ago. Salvation by faith in Christ alone was his teaching and not through the rituals of the church. This brought great persecution to the Lutherans and hundreds of thousands of people were killed by the Catholic Church because they were losing control over the masses of people and their money. But then the Lutheran Church began to attack the Anabaptists that believe they needed to be rebaptized as believers and not just as infants as the Catholics did. Now the Lutherans doctrines became darkness to them rather than light because they rejected the truth of believer baptism as John the Baptist did and as Jesus taught His disciples to do while He was still with them, because babies cannot yet believe in Jesus. This is why it is called a believers baptism!

As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” [And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] Acts 8:36-37 (NASU)

Now in closing, we must see the darkness in other religions or we will not flee from it into the truth/light of Christ. BUT we must ask Jesus to show us the darkness in our own heart not seeing the whole truth as it is in Him, and if we think we have all light, we also are deceived, not having yet come into the full knowledge of truth in Christ. Be at peace my friend because darkness and light is on planet earth every day and I think there will be some form of darkness in us until we go to Him in heaven or He comes to change our vile bodies into the likeness of His glory. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Seek the Lord daily to allow His light to shine into your darkness and He will be the Light in you to light up the world around you!
