Some thirty years ago two Bible verses were given to me when I was at an H&R Block office in Baton Rouge, LA getting my taxes done. When a lady I did not know walked up to me and said, “The Lord told me to give you these two scriptures, Isaiah 54:17, ‘No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their vindication is from Me,’ declares the Lord.” (NASU) And the second one was Hosea 2:19–20, “And I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, in loving kindness and in compassion, and I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the Lord.” (NASU)

These verses have been my battle cry now for all these years, God has proven Himself faithful in all circumstances of life even when it looked as if I would be overcome by my trials. Yet I have prevailed over the oppression of the enemy because of knowing God’s loving presence.  Let this be written about our lives, “These are those who have come through great tribulation.” (See Rev. 7:14)

I can tell you clearly that I know how to overcome the enemy in all circumstances of life if we will choose not to quit and give up in the midst of them. The book of Revelation tell us clearly how to overcome if we will just implement the weapons of our warfare that we have been given in the word. "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” Rev 12:11 (NASU) The problem is when most of us do not see the victory quickly we give up on the promises of God, yet the Bible is very clear that the overcomers, the bride of Christ or sons of God did overcome and will overcome all obstacles in their path. They overcame the dragon through the blood, the word, and not loving there self-life.

They overcame by opening their mouth against all the attacks of the enemy so that they could defeat them. God has given us our weapons of warfare, but it is up to us to use them to fight in the spirit realm. The greatest weapon we have is the word of God. If we will open our mouth and proclaim it and worship God in the midst of our trial we cannot be defeated.  We all know this part of the Lord’s Prayer, “…Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven…” Our flesh is made of the earth, we have an earthly body, yet also we are of God which is the heavenly spiritual part of who we are inside of us, known as the inner-man. When we combine our heavenly knowledge to our earthly understanding we have authority over all evil spiritual powers and principalities.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete. 2 Cor 10:3-6 (NASU)

"For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time." Rev 12:12 (NASU)

There are three type of people in the church today. 1). Those who sit with Christ in heavenly places of true peace and rest in God through all their trials of life. 2). Those who are earthly. These Christians only mind the flesh and not the spiritual side of who they really are, they think of how to endorse their selfish ways because that’s all they know of. 3). Those who are living the sea life are easily disrupted as the ocean and are never at ease, fearful about everything in life with little faith in God to deliver them, they just go through the rigors of religious tradition.  (See Rev. 17:15, Isa 57:20)

The Christians who are still earthly minded are also known as the woman in chapter 12 of the book of Revelation. Although they are about to have a great spiritual epiphany because they have to have one or be taken over by the power of evil from all the attacks that are coming from the enemies mouth.

Many of the battles that are taking place in the church and our own personal lives have to do with this very thing. When we choose to obey our flesh rather than our spirit we are choosing which side we are fighting on. The side of holiness or on the side of our sinful nature, we choose this each and every day whose side we are going to fight on. Either promoting the kingdom of light and truth or the kingdom of darkness.

The woman (the church) gave birth to the overcomers in Revelation 12:5 who are caught up to the power of the throne of God. These are the ones who have learned to walk in the spirit and now have the authority of the kingdom of God. The woman was not completely ready for this place of power and authority in the kingdom because she is still to earthly. But God gave her two wings of an eagle to fly into the wilderness (the spirit realm) away from the enemy. Those who choose God’s way will be put into His spiritual boot camp to learn the ways of fighting in the spirit against the enemy.

And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon poured out of his mouth. Rev 12:15-16 (NASU)

Many of these words are symbolic and have great spiritual meaning in them. The serpent speaks out of his mouth a great flood of attacks against the church with his lies and temptations to try and lure away the people of God after his ways rather than following the ways of the spirit of God. But the woman (the church) gets wise council and understanding how the sons of God overcame with the blood of the Lamb, the word of testimony, and not loving self above God. The earth [the woman] opens her mouth and devours the flood of the enemy with the word of God coming out her mouth to defeat him. The enemy became so enraged that he left them to go find others to attack with his words of accusations. Does not the Bible say, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”  James 4:7-8 (NASU) Yes, we have the promises from God to overcome all the attacks of the enemy!

One of my favorite hymns is A Mighty Fortress is Our God. In verse three of this song it says “ONE LITTLE WORD SHALL FELL HIM.” Dr. Martin Luther knew that one word from God will cut the devil to pieces! This small in stature Monk knew that God’s power had delivered him from many devil’s through one word from God. And we also must trust His word to deliver us.

And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God hath willed
his truth to triumph through us.
The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

Jesus also used the word to devour the flood of the enemy’s words with the word of God and His victory was won easily. In Matthew 4:4, 7, 10 just by Jesus quoting Scriptures and saying these simple words, “It is written” Satan had to leave Him at the time and the victory was won. Satan tested Him with the three sins of the flesh. The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. These are the three categories that we all fight against every day of our lives, yet I believe there is victory in the Blood, the Name, and word of God if we will stand up and fight.

A day after I taught on Revelation 12:11 I was reading Streams in the Desert devotional November 16 which jumped off the page at me. It was God speaking to me that we are to be overcomers.

Your Crown of Glory

But they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.—Rev 12:11 NET

When James and John came to Christ with their mother, asking Him to give them the best place in the kingdom, He did not refuse their request, but told them it would be given to them if they could do His work, drink His cup, and be baptized with His baptism.

Do we want the competition? The greatest things are always hedged about by the hardest things, and we, too, shall find mountains and forests and chariots of iron. Hardship is the price of coronation. Triumphal arches are not woven out of rose blossoms and silken cords, but of hard blows and bloody scars. The very hardships that you are enduring in your life today are given by the Master for the explicit purpose of enabling you to win your crown.

Do not wait for some ideal situation, some romantic difficulty, some far-away emergency; but rise to meet the actual conditions which the Providence of God has placed around you today. Your crown of glory lies embedded in the very heart of these things—those hardships and trials that are pressing you this very hour, week and month of your life. The hardest things are not those that the world knows of. Down in your secret soul unseen and unknown by any but Jesus, there is a little trial that you would not dare to mention that is harder for you to bear than martyrdom.

There, beloved, lies your crown. God help you to overcome, and sometime wear it. —Selected

The day how long;
Faint not! Fight on!
Tomorrow comes the song.”

For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death. Rom 8:2 (AMP)

I know that it may not seem or feel like you have been freed from the law of sin and death in your daily life, but according to Scripture we are! I was in a large meeting some time back when the speaker said, “I want you to know that we ministers are fighting the same battles that you face and at times we lose the battle, but we don’t give up.” According to Paul’s writings to the Roman’s we already have the power of life in us over the power of sin and death. What this means to me is, if I will take the time to seek God’s presence and power each day whether I win the victory or not, His presence will strengthen my inner-man to fight another day. God’s acceptance of us does not deviate from us day to day on how good or bad we are. The Bible says we can come boldly into the throne room of grace and receive His mercy in the time of need if we will just receive it. His mercy comes in the form of His presence if we will come with an open heart to seek His help and forgiveness. He will give this to us freely if we will just ask Him. When you are feeling guilty and condemned allow His presence to come into your heart as you give thanks for His mercy, you will then rise up victoriously.

It is never a good time to give up on God’s faithfulness because of our unfaithfulness, for He is always waiting with open arms to receive a repentant heart. It has been said, “WE DO NOT DIE IN ORDER TO LIVE, WE RECEIVE LIVE IN ORDER TO DIE TO SELF.” God’s life is our life to be lived victoriously!
