By Dan Luehrs

"Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." -- "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit" (Jude 1:3, 20 NASB).

"And the word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith" (Acts 6:7 NASB).

When the Bible speaks of "the faith" in these verses, it is not speaking about faith for God to answer our prayers, even though in some places of the Bible this is so. What Jude is writing about is the full aspect of the Christian faith; these are the truths that Jesus came to give us spiritual understanding in. "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4 KJV). "The knowledge of the truth" is a very broad subject that we will spend our entire lives seeking. Truth is a three-dimensional subject that we will seek to understand its great depths throughout eternity. The "truth" includes our salvation, which is the Passover experience; speaking in other tongues, which is the Pentecost experience; and the Feast of Tabernacles, which is us possessing the fullness of God. We are to become knowledgeable and obedient to the truth!

"Thus says the LORD, 'I will return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem (God's sons). Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts will be called the Holy Mountain" (Zechariah 8:3 NASB).

The truth of the kingdom of God is like a great mountain in the spirit realm that we are climbing throughout our lifetime after we are saved. In fact, we do not start climbing the mountain of truth until we have come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. He is the Key to the knowledge of truth, and without Him, there is no truth, because He is the "Truth." Jesus said to the teachers of the Law, "Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge (Jesus); you did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered" (Luke 11:52 NASB). We must follow Jesus to the top of Mount Zion and be changed into His likeness; at the top there will be the wedding of the Lamb to His bride. "And I looked, and behold, the Lamb was standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads (His name is His likeness and character)" (Revelation 14:1 NASB). The ones having reached the top of the mountain had their minds renewed by the truth, which is the full likeness of their beloved Groomsman.

Below I have made a type of what I believe Mount Zion could look like in the spirit as we climb and learn its wonderful truths.

Learning present truth can prove to be very difficult for our religious and traditional mindset because the ways of the past are so ingrained in us. We like to hold on to what we were first taught, what we feel comfortable with, and because Pastor, Dr., or Reverend So and So taught us these things, believing it himself. The higher we climb the mountain of truth, the greater others in the religious system will fight against the truth that is in us because they cannot understand it. They will try to reason with us, attempting to stop us on our journey upward into the high places of God, even as they did Christian in the Pilgrim's Progress book. They want us to follow them back into their religious prison camps to die with them there. But we were never told to follow a person to the top of the Mount Zion, only the Lamb! We are not to be taken captive or held prisoner by anyone's denominational traditions that hold us to one level of the mountain of truth. We must move higher and higher upward to the fullness of God. "See to it that no one takes you captive (prisoner) through hollow (shallow) and deceptive philosophy (doctrines), which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ" (Colossians 2:8 NIV). As a small boy I was raised in the Lutheran church and grade school. Lutheranism was all that I knew about God and the truths of the Bible. As far as I knew, everyone in the world believed as a Lutheran! Then one day I heard about "those Baptists," who did not let their children go to dances. When I heard this, I thought, "Thank God I'm Lutheran, they don't care if I go to the dance or not!" It did not matter what God thought about dancing as long the Lutherans OK'd it. Then it was all right with me. My mind had been controlled by Lutheran doctrines that I once learned as a little boy, not the Word and Spirit of God. But that was about to be challenged by the Spirit of truth when I received Him into my heart.

To learn present truth can be very fearful to us as we climb this mountain of God, because we are afraid of change and of the unknown. We want to feel secure in what we are doing and what we believe to be the truth of God. When our present understanding is challenged, we react with contempt and put up walls of protection around us so that nothing can bring harm to our belief system. Feelings of fear and insecurity will always grip us when we are presented with truth that we have not heard before. We felt fear when we first came to Jesus because it was unknown to us; again we were fearful when we received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This is how it will be when we are presented with any truths that we have not heard before. Our present insecurities originate from the fall of man in the garden. As we began to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, it made the truth of God seem foolish and fearful to our carnal mind. Adam and Eve became fearful of God and hid themselves from the truth that He is. The fear that we all feel can only be changed through our receiving and understanding truth. "And the one on whom seed (the truth) was sown on the good soil (a person), this is the man who hears the word and understands it" (Matthew 13:23 NASB). The higher we climb the mountain of truth and understanding in spiritual things, the more we can overcome our enemy's schemes of using deception to defeat us, because we will understand spiritual realities better and foil his plans against us. Our knowledge and understanding of truth must be stretched in us for us to be growing and going up the mountain. Growing in truth will make us feel uncomfortable at times. When we grew in our physical bodies we had pains, and so it is in our spiritual life also. As young children, we could not wait to grow up; so now, we also must desire to grow up spiritually! This is not a calling for the half-hearted Christian, but for those who have a passionate love for Jesus and desire to be one with Him at the top of the mountain; ones who are willing to pay any price to be with Him! Once our minds are totally renewed with the truth, we will be transformed into the likeness and character of Jesus. But this will only come about slowly, line upon line, truth upon truth, even as one would climb a mountain through perseverance.

When we asked Jesus to baptize us with the Spirit of truth we received the down payment or deposit of what is yet to come in our heart. "Set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come" (2 Corinthians 1:22 NIV). By no means was it the only payment we are to be given while still alive upon the earth. There are to be many deposits of the Holy Spirit placed into our heart; yes, even daily fillings of the Spirit of God. The New Revised Bible says that the initial filling was the "First installment." When we buy something on an installment plan, the first payment is just the beginning; there are more to follow! Hallelujah! Some Christians seem to think that they have it all right away, but they do not. We must be prepared by the smaller impartations of the Spirit to be readied for the fullness of the Spirit. Please hear me my friend. He is coming with a great outpouring. But only those who have prepared themselves for it and who are looking for Him will be ready! If we have not prepared ourselves by staying full of the Spirit, we will not be able to handle the fullness of the Spirit. We will be like an old wineskin that will explode with the new wine of the Spirit. Jesus desires to reveal Himself to us today in greater revelations of Himself in truth and by filling us with His Spirit, as we spend time with Him and cry out to know Him more in truth.

God will give us greater installments of His Spirit and truth because we are asking to know Him more, but now we must not just ask to know Him more, but to know Him and possess Him unto all His fullness! Only receiving more of Him will make our lives worth living. Worldly people are pushing themselves to go farther and farther than anyone have ever gone before, like in sports, science, and technology. Now it our turn to break through the realm of the flesh and push higher and higher into the high places of God's truth so that we are changed into the likeness of His life. To attain to these high places of truth will not be easy and will take great sorrow and suffering on our part even as a natural mountain climber has to go through the many trials of his climb. But because of the glory of reaching the top the climber does not quit because he has a chance to reach the summit that few people have ever done. It is a rarity to reach to top! What makes something valuable in the world like a diamond is its scarcity, and this is why the truth of God's word is such a treasure, because so few of people have it! Paul called it, " The unfathomable riches of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8 NASB).

God is our very Best Friend and He will lead us into all truth, but our insecurities will hinder us from growing in truth. As we learn more of God's truth and believe it, it will set us free from all our insecurities and give us greater peace through knowing His love. But when we say "no" to His revealed truth, we then will stay on the present level of truth that we are on. The wisest thing we can do when we are presented with new teachings that we do not understand is to sit on it. We should ask the Holy Spirit to teach us the truth in His time and not criticize it. We must continually ask the Holy Spirit to reveal in us any false doctrines of man and have it cleansed out of us by knowing truth. I have found that He will work with me and reveal all truth to me as we were promised in John 16:13. "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come." Our Christian faith is about knowing and growing in truth (Jesus), so that the truth will set us free from all lies and deceptions! Our growth in truth does not stop with our basic salvation experience, but it is to grow daily like a tree firmly planted by the river. A tree is either growing or dying; it cannot do both at the same time. So it is with our Christian faith.

The book Hind's Feet On High Places by Hannah Hurnard, speaks very clearly about what the mountainous high places are. I quote:

"Sometimes, as she looked on the glorious panorama visible from these lowest slopes (truths) in the Kingdom of Love, she found herself blushing as she remembered some of the dogmatic statements which she and others had made in the depths of the valley about the High Places and the ranges of Truth (deeper truths). They had been able to see so little and were so unconscious of what lay beyond and above. If that had been the case down in the valley, how much more clearly, she now realized, that even up on those wonderful slopes (deeper truths) she was only looking out on a tiny corner of the whole.

She began to understand quite clearly that truth cannot be understood from books alone or by any written words, but only by personal growth and development in understanding, and that things written even in the Book of Books can be astonishingly misunderstood while one still lives on lower levels of spiritual experience (truths) and on the wrong side of the grave on the mountains.

She perceived that no one who finds herself up on the slopes of the Kingdom of Love can possibly dogmatize (be opinionated) about what is seen there, because it is only then that she comprehend how small a part of the glorious whole she sees. All she can do is to grasp with wonder, awe, and thanks giving, and to long with all her heart to go higher and to see and understand more.

"Lord, that I might receive my sight! Help me to open myself to more light. Help me to fuller understanding" - (End of quote).

Those who understand deeper spiritual truths are not any better than those who do not. The difference is that they have had more grace to mature in spiritual experiences and understanding. Someone that studies to be a lawyer is not any better than anyone else is; it's just that they have disciplined and applied themselves to learn about law. An eighteen-year-old person that just graduated from high school is not any better than a ten-year-old child that hasn't; it's just that eighteen-year-old is more knowledgeable due to the years of study. We must not compare our spiritual maturity to anyone else least we fall into despair or pride; for those who think they stand will fall! If we must compare ourselves to anyone, let's compare ourselves to Jesus! "For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise" (2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV).

We must understand that this mountain of truth is the kingdom of God and that the kingdom dwells within us! As soon as we yield to the kingdom of God within our heart, our mind will be renewed by the truth that is within us, because the King lives within each of us to teach and change us. Even when we have made it to the top and understand all spiritual truths, we are not called to stay and live there. We are called to bring the truths of God back down the mountain to the people who are living in the valley below. We must move this mountain of truth/faith that is within us by bringing it to all nations. Then they too can receive its rich bountiful blessings and be set free from sin and death by knowing the truth, for knowing the truth will set all free! "That the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory (truth) of the children of God" (Romans 8:21 NRSV).

"But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains (governments), and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion (the church), and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem (God's sons)" (Micah 4:1-2 KJV). Hallelujah, what a word! The nations are going to know His great truths and choose to walk His path of dying to self, just as the rest of His people had to do. The nations will be changed; we have His word on it!

"And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith, and do not doubt, you shall not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it shall happen" (Matthew 21:21 NASB).

To move a mountain sounds like great faith, and it is! Our Christian faith is "this mountain" that must be moved into the sea (nations)! The sea represents the peoples of the world that need the truths of God in order to be changed. "And he said to me, "The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues" (Revelation 17:15 NASB). Spiritual Mount Zion is "this mountain" of truth that must be moved from the spirit realm to the earth where mankind lives, so that they also may be changed by the Truth (Jesus) and partake of heavens bountiful treasures. "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven (or spirit)" (Matthew 6:10 NASB). God will have His will done on earth as it is done in heaven, because He has already spoken it forth!

"On this mountain (of truth) the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food (truth) for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine-- the best of meats (the word) and the finest of wines (His Spirit). On this mountain (of truth) he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples (the darkness blinding them), the sheet that covers all nations" (Isaiah 25:6-7 NIV).

"For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been. But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions" (Obadiah 1:16-17 KJV).

There is soon coming a day when God will rip this veil of darkness covering all nations that prevents them from seeing the light of the glory of God. Then they will mourn because they will see that they had been living in His glory all the time without knowing it, because they did not seek Him. "Look, he is coming with the clouds (His saints), and every eye will see him (spiritual eye), even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen." (Revelation 1:7 NIV).

Come, Lord Jesus!
