In 1996 I had a vision of a minister being set on fire as he was preaching. He was walking around like a human matchstick with arms and legs and just his head on fire. It reminded me of the TV commercial for Match Light Charcoal. Then, suddenly, the whole matchstick, along with the head, arms, and legs, became one mighty flame of fire! Not just a little fire but like a blast of fire flame which comes out of a jet fighter plane when it takes off. I said Lord, “What was that all about?” He said, “I am making My ministers a flame of fire!” (See Heb. 1:7).

The Lord confirmed this vision to me two years later through Rick Joyner’s book, The Call. In the book Rick speaks about how the Lord showed him how these messengers of fire are about ready to be released in the earth to bring repentance and cleansing to His church, preparing His bride for His glory.

For some time now the Lord has been pouring the fresh oil of the Holy Spirit onto His church and He is about to set some ministers on fire to burn for Him. They will not have to announce the fire of God through the media. People will turn aside to see them burn with God's fire, even as Moses turned aside to see the burning bush and hear God speak to him through the fire. God will now speak through His ministers of fire and cleanse the people through their very words. This baptism of unquenchable fire will cleanse His church from the man of sin within all of us. "And His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire" (Matthew 3:12 NASB). Jesus promised that we would be baptized with His fire to consume the sin or chaff out of us. He will burn the wood, hay, and stubble out of our lives and make us like Himself. Then those who are purified will do the greater works of Jesus Christ. We are told in scripture that His day is coming with fire that will burn up all that is not like Him. "For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze," says the LORD of hosts, "so that it will leave them neither root nor branch" (Malachi 4:1 NASB).

Jesus was baptized with fire at His baptism and His apostles were set on fire at Pentecost. Now it’s our turn, hallelujah! But there is something coming that is even greater than what they had. What I see coming is Isaiah 60:1, “Arise, shine: your light has come. And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.” I get excited about this because these are the greatest days to be alive! The words, “Risen upon you,” means to "shoot forth as beams of light like the sun." Only life can give forth life. Death cannot bring forth life and when the lights are turned on spiritually all darkness must flee. As we go forth with His glory, great healings and deliverances will take place in the earth. Nothing sinful in will be able to stand before Him. Now is the time when His glory is going to be revealed in the earth through His people to a hurting and dying world. “And nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising” (Isaiah 60:3).

What exactly is this fire that will cleanse us? One word… God! "Our God is a consuming fire." Not only is His presence fire, His word is fire. "Is not My word like fire…" (Jeremiah 23:29 NASB)? The fire or anointing of God is in His word. This is the purifying agent that He will use to cleanse His people and virtually the whole earth. Even more of the anointing/fire that was on Jeremiah, Elijah, Jonah, and John the Baptist will be present on these ministers of fire to cleanse all who hear the word of God and repent of their sin. God said to Jeremiah, "Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of hosts, "Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making My words in your mouth fire and this people wood, and it will consume them" (Jeremiah 5:14 NASB). God's very word was spoken through Jeremiah as fire to consume the sin in His people. But very few people in his day would receive it and be cleansed! "I have made you a tester and a refiner among my people so that you may know and test their ways. They are all stubbornly rebellious, going about with slanders; they are bronze and iron (having a mixture in them), all of them act corruptly. The bellows blow fiercely, the lead is consumed by the fire; in vain the refining goes on, for the wicked are not removed" (Jeremiah 6:27-29 NRSV).

This time people will not escape the fires of God because this is His long awaited judgment by fire, He will be revealed by fire through His messengers. "… The Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels (messengers), in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…" -- "When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day" (2 Thessalonians 1:7,8,10 KJV). When Jesus comes, He is coming in fire through these ministers of fire to consume the man of sin that is in us all. For the day of His coming is a day of fire, who can endure it? "But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap (a whitener)" (Malachi 3:2 NASB).

If we desire to endure the fire that is coming we must react accordingly to the six standards set up in Isaiah 33:14-15. We are to: walk righteously before God 2) Speak with sincerity 3) Reject unjust gain 4) Hold no bribes 5) Stop our ears from hearing about bloodshed (by not harming others) 6) Shut our eyes from looking upon evil. "Sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling has seized the godless (not godly). Who among us can live with the consuming fire? Who among us can live with continual burning? He who walks righteously, and speaks with sincerity, he who rejects unjust gain, and shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; he who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil."

"For behold, the LORD will come in fire and His chariots like the whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire (ministers of fire). For the LORD will execute judgment by fire and by His sword (His word) on all flesh (the man of sin in us), and those slain by the LORD will be many" (Isaiah 66:15-16 NASB).

"On that day (the day of His coming) the LORD with his cruel and great and strong sword (His word) will punish Leviathan (the man of sin in us) the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will kill the dragon (sin) that is in the sea (the people of the earth)" (Isaiah 27:1 NRSV).

The sword of the Lord is His word that is coming out of our mouths, "… The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:17 NASB). And with it He will smite the nations (not to destroy them, but to cleanse them). His sword is the word of fire coming out of the mouths of His ministers of fire. "And from His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may smite the nations; and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty" (Revelation 19:15 NASB). Again in 2 Thessalonians 2:8 we find this principle of the power of God coming out of His mouth to slay His enemies. "And then that lawless one (the man of sin in people) will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath (Spirit) of His mouth (His word) and bring to an end (the man of sin in people) by the appearance of His coming (in us)." Some people might say, "the sword and fire is coming out of His mouth, not man's." But we are His body and He will speak and judge the nations through us, His body. "And about these also Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him" (Jude 14-15NASB). What God will do, He will do through the power of His spoken word through His people. The fiery anointing in their mouths will bring judgment and cleansing to all men. What an awesome calling we have!

"Behold, the name of the LORD (is on His chosen ones, Rev. 14:1) comes from a remote place; burning is His anger, and dense is His smoke; His lips are filled with indignation, and His tongue is like a consuming fire." -- "And the LORD will cause His voice of authority to be heard. And the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger, and in the flame of a consuming fire, in cloudburst, downpour, and hailstones" (Isaiah 30:27, 30 NASB).
