GOD vs MAGOG
HOW REVIVAL FIRE IS GOING TO SAVE THE WORLD
By Dan Luehrs
“When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore. And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.” Rev 20:7-9 (NASU)
For years I have studied the book of Revelation and have received much insight, in fact I even wrote a booked called, Revealing the Revelation on what the Lord has given me. Yet in all my studies in Revelation Gog and Magog never made it into my radar as to what it could mean symbolically for our day and for the church. One night we were in prayer for our nation and my wife asked the Lord what we are fighting against in the spirit realm and the Lord said, “The spirit of Gog!” She at first did not understand what this could be and looked it up in the Bible and found it in Ezekiel 38-39. As she began to share this with the prayer group I had some understanding of these two chapters with Gog and Magog, which is believed to be the area of modern day Russia. Many end-time scholars believing that Russia will one day attack Israel from the north and God will destroy Russia’s armies on the mountains of Israel.
In all my years as a Christian I have never heard of anyone teaching on the spirit of Gog and Magog as to what principality and power they may be. In fact, I never saw them as a spirit, but as a nation. According to the word of the Lord in Ezekiel, there are three distinct principalities at work with the spirit of Gog.
“And the word of the Lord came to me saying, "Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him.” Ezek 38:1-2 (NASU)
Before we go too far let us first get some understanding as to what their names spiritually mean for us.
1. Gog means, (to be covered).
2. Magog means, (to be uncovered).
3. The prince of Rosh means, (the head or top ruling power).
4. The prince of Meshech means, (to draw out by force).
5. Tubal means, (the world or the earth).
Gog has such importance to our time that God has given it two chapters in Ezekiel 38-39 to help understand the evil of our times. Again the name Gog means to be covered. The powers of darkness love to work undercover as if they really do not exist. Even though people can see the force of evil at work around them they deny that there is even a devil or demonic powers at work in the earth today, including many in the church.
In 2 Thess. 2:3,8 the Bible tells us that before the coming of the Lord these spirits that work undercover will be exposed by the Holy Spirit for all to see clearly the man of sin working through mankind. Just as God works through people for His good purposes, so also the devils work can be wrought through evil people and also God’s people if we allow this in our life, our eyes must be opened to this!
The spirit of Gog and Magog is a spirit of warfare. Does that not clearly describe the affairs of the world and the church today? We are called to live and fight in this great and terrible day of the Lord that we are now living in. God is the Lord of Hosts, this means that He is a God of armies. The enemy has an army also, “Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war” Rev 20:7-9 (NASU). We the church are all called to war, not only by God, but by the enemy. None of us will get out of it, in fact all of God’s people are drafted in to this war or they will become prisoners of the enemy. The key for us is not to become a prisoner of the enemy so we must daily stand and fight! We are to never give in or give up on ourselves or on others, because if God is for us who can defeat us? This is the good news, we win if we do not give up.
“…And will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog… Rev 20:8 (NASU)
Magog means to be uncovered, this means that the spirit of Gog is going to be unveiled for the church to see its true evil nature, then after this the whole world will see the works of the devil and never wish to ever go back to those days of evil again. According to Scripture Gog and Magog cover the complete four corners of the earthly realm, the realm of the flesh, but they are not permitted in the spirit realm where God and the saints are called to occupy, for he has been cast out.
Just as Magog means to be uncovered, so does the book of Revelation. We need to understand that "The Book of Revelation" is just that: a book about the revealing or unveiling of the person of Jesus Christ in, and through His people; for there, is He veiled. The word "revelation" in the Greek means: "take the cover off and look in." In other words, to see or understand what and who the person of Jesus Christ is. So in these times that we are living in Satan will be uncovered to see his evil works in and through mankind. Now when the fire of God’s Spirit is poured out upon all flesh, Revelation 1:7 will be fulfilled.
“BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen.”
WE ARE SURROUNDED
And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.” Rev 20:9 (NASU)
Gen. Lewis Puller said this when he was surrounded by the enemy in WWII.
been looking for the enemy for some time now.
We've finally found him. We're surrounded.
That simplifies our problem of getting to these people and killing them."
right, they're on our left, they're on our right,
they're in front of us, they're behind us.
They can't get away this time."
God is going to save our enemies through His Holy Spirit fire! I know that many of God’s people believe that God will destroy all His enemies, but I tell you on the words of Jesus Christ, He came to save them!
“When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" But He turned and rebuked them, [and said, "You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them."] And they went on to another village.” Luke 9:54-56 (NASU)
The disciples were thinking of the time when Elijah was surrounded by the enemy and called fire down upon them to destroy them. (See 2 King 1:10). Jesus could have easily done this, but this was not the purpose of His coming, it is to save mankind from their sins through His fire and not to kill them.
Let’s take for example the Day of Pentecost. Jesus was just crucified by the Romans with the encouragement of the Jewish people. Was God mad at them, did He try to destroy all those rotten sinners? No, matter of fact He did the opposite by sending the love of the Holy Spirit’s fire upon His people, including Peter who denied Him in Christ’s greatest time of need. Yet God the Father poured out His Spirit with signs and wonders so much so that three thousand were saved that day in Jerusalem where Jesus was murdered! Wow, talk about the love of God! Now that the blood of Jesus has been offered for the sin of man, forgiveness is given to all who will receive it without cost.
Yes, we are now surrounded by the enemy, our own United States government is now promoting every kind of sin that the church is called to shun. Even now some churches do not stand for righteousness, but rather promoting the sin that Jesus died to set us free from. There is sin everywhere, there is nowhere to hide but in the secret place of His presence and love. (See Psalms 31:20). God does not condemn us or the people of the world for our sin, He is going to save us by the power of the Holy Spirit’s life giving fire. Listen to Peter’s word’s on the day of Pentecost.
“AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND…AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS…FIRE…” Acts 2:17, 19c (NASU)
I know that some of you are thinking of Revelation 20:9 when it says, “…and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.” Our mind right away thinks that God is going to destroy all the people that are attacking us. But the true meaning of the word [devour] is actually “to consume them.” When Jesus came into our heart He consumed our sin otherwise we would all be dead.
THE DAY OF HIS FIRE
"And I will send fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the coastlands in safety; and they will know that I am the Lord. "My holy name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let My holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel. "Behold, it is coming and it shall be done," declares the Lord God. "That is the day of which I have spoken.” Ezek 39:6-8 (NASU)
“And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.” Rev 20:9 (NASU)
The day of Pentecost was a day of judgement fire against sin and self. However, it was just the down payment of the fullness of His Spirit that is to come at a later time. You see when the Disciples were filled with the Spirit they had just received a tongue of fire on their head. With that initial outpouring they went out preaching Jesus with signs and wonders that followed them to the point of the gospel going around the world.
Now imagine the fullness of the Holy Spirit’s fire being poured out upon the church, what are we going to do with the fire of God? We are going to be like the first church, but with much, much, more power, we are going to give it away to all our enemies that are now surrounding us for their salvation and deliverance. Oh what exciting days we are living in, what anticipation fills my heart! I have written on my experience of being a minster of flames of fire many times because I believe we must be ready, so here it is one more time.
In 1996 I had a vision of myself being set on fire as I was preaching. I was walking around like a human matchstick with arms and legs and just my head on fire. It reminded me of the TV commercial for Match Light Charcoal. Then, suddenly, my whole being, along with my head, arms, and legs, became one mighty flame of fire! Not just a little fire but like a blast of fire which comes out of a jet fighter plane when it takes off. I said Lord, “What was that all about?” He said, “I am making My ministers a flame of fire!” (See Heb. 1:7).
This my friends is what is about to come to the church and her enemies, so please don’t curse the darkness, but rather get set on fire. Hallelujah!
IN THE WORDS OF SAINT AUGUSTINE
Saint Augustine was a theologian in the 300’s AD who had some prophetic revelation about Gog and Magog that has helped me to understand the subject a bit better. If what he says is true it brings great light on the subject of where we are to the coming of God’s glorious fire that will soon deliver all mankind from the sinful nature that is now controlling the masses. However, I do believe that the out pouring of the Holy Spirit’s fire in the early 1900’s was just the beginning of what is soon to culminate in the earth.
Augustine writes about Revelation 20:2, "Satan will be bound for a thousand years."
The power of Satan over the world was then restrained for a long period of time. (The reference to a time-period of a thousand years is allegorical, not literal.) It does not mean that the power of Satan was destroyed entirely; it simply means that Satan's power to rule over the races of men, as he had in the past, was done away with. He was still like a vicious dog, who attacked the Church ferociously, but his power was chained. While Satan was thus bound, he could not enforce the rule he once had over the peoples of the earth. So, in a spiritual way, Satan was bound for a thousand years. He was robbed of the dominion he had over the world. This "binding of Satan" restrained him from destroying the work of the Church, which was then able to established the spiritual Kingdom of Christ on earth.
Satan had told Christ, "all the kingdoms of the world have been given to me." That may have been true at that time. Every culture in the whole world, except for the Jews, was steeped in the worship of pantheons of false gods, which were demons who demanded worship and tribute from all who served them.
My [Dan’s] interpretation of what he says here is, Satan has now been loosed! How can we argue with this seeing how society is today living as if they have no wisdom or insight into how their lifestyle will affect them and their family in the future? Take gay marriage for instance. Two males will never leave their own flesh and blood in the earth for the generations to come. How sad! Let alone the sickness and physical pain they will incur along with a short life span and that is just what the elitist of the world want, because they think the world is over populated. How convenient for them? No children, short life span!
Augustine goes on to say,
The scriptural references to Gog and Magog symbolize the full fury of Satan unchained: the unleashing of the spirit of antichrist.
Thus, Saint Augustine says that after Satan's power has been restrained for a long period of time (i.e. a thousand years), he will be released to deceive the nations. This is only to be taken in a spiritual, and historical sense. Historically this became evident by the traumatic dissension's which began to tear into the heart of Christianity. This was soon followed the absolute rejection of God himself, and everything that the Church teaches, through scientific atheism, and the resurgence of wide-spread fascination with the occult. Finally, in the later days it was manifest by the genocidal persecutions of Hitler, and the murderous repression's of Christianity by the Communists. Russia actually enthroned 'museums of atheism', all over the country, and atheism became the "official religion" of Communist Russia. Soon thereafter came numerous murderous uprisings, and the repression of Christianity by political Marxists all over the world. Finally, this rejection of religion began to pervade the whole world. The Christian west became saturated with pornography, sexual licentiousness, the public mockery of God, and indulgence in every form of the occult. The release of Satan from his prison can be now be clearly seen by looking back at recent history. Even thirty years ago, it would have been unthinkable to graphically demonstrate to 7th graders how to put on a condom. Now, such things are taught to young children all over the world! They are even provided free condoms, or birth-control pills, or morning after pills - at the junior high school level!
I think we can agree, Satan has been cast to earth!
“And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” Rev 12:9 (NASU)
St. Augustine states that what the scripture means when it says that "his armies will be as many as the sands of the sea; they will swarm over the entire country and besiege the Camp of the Saints, which is the City that God loves", is that at some point Satan's power will universally re-conquer the whole world! After the thousand years are over, he will wage war against the Church, which is the camp of the saints, in every way conceivable. He predicts that Christians and all men of good-will throughout the whole world will be besieged, on a spiritual and cultural level by the powerful influences of the forces of Satan: "whose armies will be as many as the sands of the sea." History has proven that he was correct. In the recent decades, the power of evil has re-conquered many countries, peoples, families. Just as Saint Augustine predicted it would, the power of evil has surrounded the people of God on earth at every level. There is not a newspaper, or a billboard, or a radio, or a television, or a computer anywhere - where the "the people of God" are not bombarded by every form of immorality.
If you have not read Rick Joyner’s trilogy, The Final Quest book series I encourage you to do so because he has had some amazing prophetic encounters with the Lord to give us greater understanding into the last battle that we are all fighting in. We fight to win, and win, we will, if we do not give up the battle and surrender.
However, says St. Augustine, there will be a sudden end to this. He says that the Holy Spirit, as through a great fire, will fall from heaven, and will consume the enemies of the Church. Now it appears that this great fire that will fall from heaven, will literally be a great fire which will fall from heaven, though Saint Augustine did not clearly foresee that. He only knew that the Holy Spirit would be poured out as fire upon the Church, and that the enemies of the Church would be consumed.
We are now living in the most exciting time in history to be alive. Look not at the fight, but look at the master fighter that is living in you. Jesus has never lost a fight and He will not begin with you and me. Whatever your battle may be my friend don’t give in or give up, but fight another day, how do you know that today is not the day you will have victory? Then you will be able to help others in their daily battles because you have a greater understanding of what the battle is about. Satan wants to take the promised glory from us, which is the likeness of Jesus Christ. Be assured that God has kept the best fire of the Holy Ghost for us to finish off the enemy in our lives and this generation. Ask Him now to baptize you with the fullness of His fire and to consume the enemy in your life!
