(a word to the intercessors)

By Dan Luehrs

“Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled  (Exodus 19:16 NKJV).

The Lord is about to thunder again from heaven where all the earth will hear the sound of His voice and tremble. The sound of repentance will be heard through the land as Christians and non-Christians weep and tremble over their sins once again. You have heard it said that God moves in mysterious ways. However, He is about to speak so that all who hear Him will understand it loud and clear and experience His saving and delivering power. John the Baptist thundered in the wilderness for all to repent so that the voice of God was heard and all of Israel went out to hear him. John was preparing a highway (a higher-way) for the people to be prepared for Jesus to come through repentance. God’s prophets’ are about to do this again! God is getting ready to give this world the sign of Jonah who went out to preach repentance with power and the demonstration of His word. These prophets will have the authority to set people free from the power of the devil so that they can repent of their sins against God.

“And the Lord said to Moses, go and sanctify the people [set them apart for God] today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day, for the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai [in the cloud] in the sight of all the people(Ex 19:10-11 AMP).

As God manifested Himself in a visible glory cloud, He will do it again today to bring the nations to repentance. This happened several times in the New Testament, like when Jesus was on the Mount of Transfiguration or when He was received in the cloud of glory on Ascension Day. This has taken place in recent church history like with the Azusa Street revival where the glory was visible for long periods of time. It was prophesied back then in 1909 that God would visit the church again in one hundred years with His manifest glory, we are here! I have personal witnessed the Shekinah glory of the Lord. Once when I was by myself in my bedroom and it caused me to become fearful that I was in a fire and then the Lord spoke, “I just want you to know that I am pleased with your life.” The cloud disappeared as fast as it came. We must be prepared for His visitations at anytime in these last days by living in His presence daily!

We must now sanctify ourselves through repentance so that we will be prepared for the manifestation of His glory in the earth, otherwise we too will be found lacking oil as the foolish virgins were. When in fact the Lord wants to use us in this time to help others to stay filled with His Spirit. Just as John the Baptist was sent to prepare the way of the Lord by preaching repentance so that the people would be prepared to receive the ministry of Jesus. If we have sin in our life it will block our vision from seeing the Lord in the realm of the spirit, but repentance will open our eyes to see the Lord as we apply His eye slave to our eyes so that we might see Him more clearly. Jesus said in Revelation 3:18, “I counsel you to buy from Me… and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.” The Lord wants us to see and understand the word of God and the things of His Spirit if we will just search for Him with all of our hearts, we will then find Him.

And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God” (Revelation 4:5 NKJV).

Some years ago I was in Washington D.C. on Memorial Day and as I drove into the city I could see motorcycles all around and wondered why they were all there. I found out that they have a yearly gathering in D.C. to remember the POW’s and they call it, “Rolling Thunder.” Again I wondered why such a name? My answer came when thousands of motorcycles started up and began to move through the city and the echo from the buildings was most deafening; their point was made. They were in essence saying, “We are here and our cause will be heard by our government!”

The sound of thunder cannot be denied; even a deaf person can feel the thunder if it is loud enough. I was once putting my suitcases in the back of my van and it thundered so loudly and powerfully right above me that I almost soiled my pants and instinctively jumped right into the back of the van thinking that my life was about to end. When I realized what I had done, I thought how could I have become so fearful? If natural thunder could do that to me, a grown man who has weathered many thunderstorms, just think what it must have been like for the children of Israel when they heard God as thunder? We too would have trembled right along with them and Moses. “And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, "I am full of fear and trembling” (Heb 12:21 NAS). Please hear me, God is about to thunder from heaven once again and the earth will shake along with every inhabitant, whether they know God or not!

We were in a prayer meeting recently and a lady there felt like she had to play the base drum and hit it twice and said, “That is the sound I am hearing!” We then went outside for a prayer walk in the streets of Intercession City, Florida and as we were starting out we heard two claps of thunder right above the church just like the drum beat. We all looked at each other and then looked to the one dark cloud that was over the church and said, “Was that real because it did not sound like normal thunder?” We all felt like it was a sign from God, but what was He saying to us? We found out later when we got to our house that the Space Shuttle came over Florida to land one and a half hours later than it was planned. It just happened to occur when we were coming out of the building after prayer and the two beats of the drum was played. One could say that this was all a coincidence and pass by it, but it kept coming back to me that God is about to speak with His voice of thunder and I needed to write about it. Not realizing how much the Bible has to say about God thundering from heaven as a warning. When we hear thunder it tells us that a storm is approaching and we must seek cover from the lightning and strong winds, but it also tells us that heavy rain is on the way to water the land! Rain turns into rivers and rivers into lakes so that people can swim in the waters of God. Right now at the time of this writing in the natural we are experiencing record rain fall here in central Florida. I believe that this is sign from God that we will soon see a rain feast of His word and Spirit over the land.

Some years ago as we were praying in Intercession City I saw darkness coming in the spirit realm and warned the people, as we left the building we heard deep, deep rolling thunder like I have never heard before in the distance. The next day I found out that a tornado had touched down several times in the area jumping over one of the ladies homes that was in the prayer meeting and killing forty two people in the area. We must stay attentive to what the Lord is showing and warning us about if we are to be a blessing in these days.

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty” (Psalms 29:3-4 NKJV).

“Hear attentively the thunder of His voice, and the rumbling that comes from His mouth” (Job 37:2 NKJV).

After I read verses like these I told the Lord that He must confirm this to me again about His thunder. A few days later I was praying in Intercession City for God to speak to us like thunder and to send the Living Creatures from the throne with their voices of thunder. At that same time it thundered right over the church again and I knew that I was not making this up. Then the very next day I was reading The Morningstar Journal, Frances Frangipane wrote that the voices of thunder were going to come through the intercessors!

When the children of Israel heard the thunderings and saw the lightning and felt the earthquake at the very presence of God, the fear of God was placed in their heart. Even though it only lasted for a short time until they were tested on whether they would obey God or not, never the less, they had heard and experienced God! God was warning them through the thunder of the consequences that would happen to them if they chose to walk in unbelief. They quickly turned from God to make a golden calf when Moses was on the mountain for forty days receiving the Law of God and as to their judgment; the earth opened up and swallowed all the unrepentant.

This tells me two things. The first one is, the more we push into the things of God and experience His fire and glory the more we will be held accountable to God. As someone has said, “What you can get by with in the Outer Court will kill you in the Holy of Holies.” The people of Israel experienced the raw power of God and still chose to worship idols in the face of the living God, presumption killed them. The second thing is; had Moses not interceded for them, God would have destroyed them all! “So the Lord relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people” (Exodus 32:14 NKJV). This leads me to my next point.

We all know that Jesus is our Great Intercessor, but if we desire to have His likeness we too must become intercessors for the church and the world; this is our calling! If your desire is to live in the throne room with His glory cloud then you must become an intercessor because that is the heart of God. Jesus entered the Holy of Holies (the throne room) as a forerunner before us so that we could follow Him, and not just enjoy God’s presence and glory. We are called to intercede with Him as our High Priest and carry what is on His heart. What a high and holy calling we have to share the heart of God in prayer and intimacy with the creator of the universe. (See Heb 6:20).

“Another angel came and stood at the altar with a gold incense-bowl, and he was given a large quantity of incense to add to the prayers of all God’s people on the gold altar in front of the throne. The smoke of the incense went up with the prayers of God’s people from the hand of the angel before God. Then the angel took the incense-bowl, filled it with fire from the altar and threw it down onto the earth; and there followed peals of thunder, voices, flashes of lightning and an earthquake(Rev 8:3-5 CJB).

Again we see the throne, the thunder and the voices. I believe that the thunder and the voices at the throne are the intercessors praying the perfect will of God to be done in the earth because it came from the elders and living creatures. The Golden Altar of Incense was placed before the Ark of the Covenant which is a type of the throne where the glory of God dwells for eternity. We as intercessors are called to sit on the throne with the twenty four elders and the living creatures that speak like thunder. “Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, "Come and see” (Revelation 6:1). -- “Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back” (Revelation 4:6 NKJV). These four living creatures had eyes all around them, meaning, they saw what the Father saw and were able to pray from the heart of God for every purpose. This truly is a high and heavenly calling to be one with Jesus, the Intercessor in the Father’s throne room. To be very honest with you, I do not believe that there is a higher calling in the entire universe because we are one in the heart of the Father.

I have had some prophetic experiences lately with the fire of God and feeling His burnings. For many years I have felt the burning of my skin in the presence of God, so this is nothing new to me because the Bible says that our God is a consuming fire. As we draw closer to Him we will feel His burnings. A short time ago the Lord opened the door of His heart and invited me in to the eternal burnings of God which caused me to tremble greatly. Sometimes when I am praying and walking I feel the air all around me is on fire. The only way I can explain this is to say, it would be like walking into a burning house, but the fire does not harm my physical body, yet I know that it is very real. I asked the Lord what the burning air is, He said, “You walk in the midst of the coals of fire.” This is not some strange thing because the Bible says that there are beings of fire and we are called to be ministers of flames of fire. (See Ezekiel 1, Hebrews1:7). So I know that these things are true because they are found in the word of God even though our mind cannot comprehend all that is going on around us. We must receive it by faith and experience all that God has for us. As I was praying and walking in the fire one night the Lord said, “You walk in the fire of the altar.” My first thoughts were the coals of fire in the Brazen Altar, but then I felt the Lord say the Altar of Incense because Jesus was the last and final sacrifice upon the Brazen Altar of sin and no person could add or take away from that. The Father went on to say, “As I walked and prayed for the will of God to be done in the coals of fire I was offering up the incense of prayer before the throne of God.” I thought, “Can I be hearing this correctly because it seemed so strange?” When I returned home I turned to a Christian TV channel where a minister had the Altar of Incense standing before him. He was teaching about our prayers were like incense before God and used the same verse that the Lord had given me just moments before. “The smoke of the incense went up with the prayers of God’s people from the hand of the angel before God” (Rev 8:4 CJB). Our calling and identification as intercessors is to become the smoke of His incense that surrounds the throne of God! How neat is that, we get to encircle the Father as He fills us? The fires in our lives are producing a sweet smelling savor of incense unto the Lord as we choose to worship and thank God for all that He is allowing in our lives. After receiving this word from the Lord He has given me several other conformations of this same thing happening to other people to confirm to me that I was not going crazy.

“Then the angel took the incense-bowl, filled it with fire from the altar and threw it down onto the earth; and there followed peals of thunder, voices, flashes of lightning and an earthquake” (Rev 8:5 CJB).

As our prayers ascend to the throne of God they will be sent back to the earth as fire and thunder to shake all the inhabitance of the earth with a mighty move of God. The Bible says that all the prayers of the saints will be offered up to God upon the Altar of Incense. This means that all the prayers for revival and the judgment of God will come upon the earth to bless those who repent and judge all those who chose to rebel against God’s word. We are living in prophetic historic times to fulfill the will of God in the earth. Pray on my interceding friends and know that your voice and prayers will be heard before the Father and be sent back to earth as thunder and fire to fulfill His will in mankind.

“Then he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from the altar before the Lord, with his hands full of sweet incense beaten fine, and bring it inside the veil. And he shall put the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the Testimony, lest he die(Leviticus 16:12-13 NKJV).

The smoke of the incense was to cover the Mercy Seat on the Ark of the Covenant so that the High Priest could minister before the Lord. He then sprinkled the lamb’s blood on the Mercy Seat so that Israel’s sin was covered for the passed year. If there was no smoke or cloud from the incense the High Priest could not enter the Holy of Holies lest he die from the presence of the Lord. The cloud of incense was his covering and protection from a holy God. Our God is so pure and holy that our minds cannot comprehend Him. Even though He is holy, He still wants to be with His people so much so that He planned a way to dwell with man after the fall. The cloud by day and the fire by night protected the people physically in the wilderness so that they would not die; the blood of the lamb covered the people spiritually so that God’s holiness would not kill them.

Our prayers and intercession are as a covering like smoke that protects us, our family, church, and community from the judgment of God. We as intercessors are called to fellowship and pray in the throne room (the Holy of Holies) with Jesus to see God’s will to be done in the earth. At times I wonder why we even pray at all if God knows everything. Then I think of the fellowship that I would miss with God if I did not pray and enjoy His presence, and beyond that we are called to share the burdens of His heart. Our prayers are making holes in the spiritual atmosphere of our communities so that the powers of darkness are being pushed back by the light of the intercessors. Then the glorious gospel can shine through to those in darkness. An intercessor is one who God has called to a place of authority in the spirit realm to rule and reign with Him and to cover our community with the presence and glory of God. We intercessors are the incense that has been beaten fine by our trials and tribulations to bring a sweet smelling savor unto the Father as our prayers cover our family and community.

Satan once had a place of authority in God and covered the earth with his oversight as he too walked in the midst of the stones of fire. "You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones(Ezekiel 28:14 NKJV). Christians are now called to displace his evil powers and to overcome him and his evil horde that are trying to destroy the people that God created the earth for. One of God’s main purposes for the church is to overthrow the evil powers through mankind which He made from dust. God is using the very least of creation (dust) to overthrow the great powers of darkness; this is why we must pray, because we are the army of the Lord of Host’s and are entering into His battle!

“James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, "Sons of Thunder(Mark 3:17 NKJV).

To be called the “Sons of Thunder” by our Lord seems like a very bad thing because it implies that they were very angry and hot tempered men. Yet, when we think of Peter being called “The Rock” we do not think of Peter as being hard headed! I do not believe that Jesus was calling them angry men because John is known as the apostle of love and give him charge to watch over His mother. James and John were called the “Sons of Thunder” because their prayers and writings would impact the world with their voice like thunder. Just think, John wrote four books of the Bible and the thunderous book of Revelation that still thunders over all the other books that man has ever written. In these last days God is going to have a final witness that speaks with a voice of many waters and thunder in the earth, they will be heard!

“Then I heard what sounded like the roar of a huge crowd, like the sound of rushing waters, like loud peals of thunder, saying, “Halleluyah! Adonai, God of heaven’s armies, has begun his reign” (Rev 19:6 CJB)!

God’s army is about to reign in the earth and displace all the demonic powers of the enemy, there will not be a hiding place for them in all of God’s creation. Even as Jesus went about doing good and destroying the work of the devil, so shall we! This is our hour, our calling, and destiny if we will overcome in our own life over all the works of the devil. We then will be called faithful and chosen to fight with Jesus on the white horse to overcome the enemy in all the realms of God because we will have His likeness. “Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever” (Rev 11:15 NKJV)! As we have seen, the loud voices come from the throne of God where we are called to rule and reign with Jesus. We are the temple of God that He speaks from! Then the Temple of God in heaven was opened, and the Ark of the Covenant was seen in his Temple; and there were flashes of lightning, voices, peals of thunder, an earthquake and violent hail” (Rev 11:19 CJB). The prayers and judgments from the body of Christ will thunder in the earth to set mankind free from all the power of the enemy. So rise up and allow God to speak through you as His voice of thunder.
