"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth”

(John 4:24 NAS).

God is spirit. There is nothing plainer in all of Scripture that describes Who or What God is. But to some peoples minds this may sound strange and even freaky because of the things they have been taught about ghosts, evil spirits, or what they have seen on television about spirit encounters. All spirits are not evil, in fact God is the original good one and there is no evil in Him or the angels of God whatsoever! Jesus told us in Scripture that the desire of an evil spirit is to have a body as its home to work through and to even find rest.

"Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find it. "Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came'; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. "Then it goes, and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation" (Matt 12:43-45 NAS).

Unembodied spirits look for a place to rest and to call home, just as you and I look for a house or an apartment to live in to find rest for our bodies, so evil spirits look for the same in a human body. We call it house hunting, spirits call it body hunting! They look for ways into the human body through horrific events in our life such as fear, sexual abuse, drunkenness, drugs, or through ungodly and occultic practices. Literally people open their heart up to these evil spirits to fill and control them through their music, and videos, along with many other things. These things are very real and we are beginning to see this more clearly in the hearts and lives of people as they manifest these evil spirits through their words and actions. Truly darkness is growing upon the earth at an ever increasing daily rate.

“Thus says the LORD, "Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest? "For My hand made all these things, thus all these things came into being," declares the LORD. "But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word” (Isa 66:1-2 NAS).

God is a spirit that wants a body for His home on the earth; in fact He is the creative spirit that made all things and is above everything that is created. The difference between God and evil spirits is that they will force themselves upon people, where God will only come into someone’s heart that invites Him. God first formed Adam out of the dust of the ground, but for what reason? So that He could breathe Himself into Adam, then He would have a body (a co-laborer and a joint heir) to work through. This would then be a marriage with the soul of man and the Spirit of God, a match made in heaven! “Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath (spirit) of life; and man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7 NAS). The only problem with man is that God gave him a will to both love and obey God or to disobey and fall away from the very life that God had given him. This is still in effect today for every person ever born after Adam. We can daily, hourly be filled with the life giving presence of Jesus if we chose to be or like Adam we could chose to disobey and walk away from the life giving power of God.

When the first Adam failed to yield his life to God, God became a man and walked perfectly sinless before us. “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which translated means, "God with us (Matt 1:23 NAS). Jesus showed us how to live in the power of God when He became flesh and became the pattern Son that we should model our lives after. He jealously desires to fill us and to overflow our being with His love so that He may touch others through us. God wants to partner with us, what more could we ask for? “… He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us” (James 4:5-6 NAS). Have you thought long on this before? God, the creator of the universe jealously desires to fill you every moment of your life; all He is looking for is a yielded body.

On the day of Pentecost He did just that, filled everyone that was waiting on Him in the upper room in Jerusalem. “And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent, rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance” (Acts 2:2-4 NAS). God was excited that day to fulfill His word and rushed to fill every available person there that day. Only one hundred twenty were there, but had there been thousands He would have filled them all as He has filled millions around the world today. Think about how we have been so blessed to know His great salvation and to be filled with His Spirit which He had waited since the day Adam fell into the grips of sin and death. We have been given this command Ephesians 5:18. “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.” This is a simple command yet untold millions refuse to sit with Jesus daily to be filled with His presence, oh yes they were once filled with the Holy Spirit in a church or a prayer meeting but they have failed to stay filled with His Spirit on a daily basis. God’s concern is where we are today in our walk with Him, yesterday is behind us, today is all we have because we have no guaranties of even one breath of air tomorrow. What are you doing about staying filled today? In Matthew chapter 25 Jesus told us about the parable of the ten virgins and how five wise virgins stayed full of oil and how five foolish did not and were shut out of the kingdom of God’s rule and reign as a bride.

We must be clothed with our eternal body to rule and reign through which will never die or be hindered with sickness and sin. This is one of the great promises the Lord has given us as believers, to overcome death and sin. We will not be as past rulers that have ruled for forty years or so and then died, oh no, we will rule for eternity in a body that will never die or even age one iota.

“For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee” (2 Cor 5:1-5 NKJV).

There is a great difference between a tent and a building; one is temporal and the other is permanent. Our earthly body will only last a few years where our spiritual body will last for all eternity as God will Himself. We now groan in this body for our spiritual body that has the eternal likeness of God in light, truth, and the holiness of God. We all groan for the perfection of God when we look into a mirror and see our bodies aging before us or we commit a sin that we groan over because we have hurt someone because of our own selfishness. But one day soon this body of mortality (death) will be consumed by the greater power of LIFE that rules throughout eternity. We now have been given the promise of the Holy Spirit as a down payment of what is to come; it is the eternal life of God that comes to us through the person of Jesus Christ. He is the eternal life/light of God that we all crave for so that we are not found naked and without a glorified body. Jesus has prepared us to be His body through the death of His cross and is preparing us for this calling through His dealings in our life by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said in John 14:2-3, “In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” Notice how Jesus said this; My Father’s house has many places of residence or habitation. We know from Scripture that God is spirit and He does not have a building for a home except in the people that have invited Him into their hearts through faith. David said in Psalms 23:6, “… I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” God has an eternal home, it is in you and me and every true believer since the beginning of time. We are the temple of God that Jesus has prepared through His death and resurrection and the forgiveness of sin. We have been received into the fellowship of Jesus and the Father’s love so that we can be with Him wherever He goes. Because of this great work which He has done for us by preparing us a glorified body, which is the body of God that we can dwell in as our eternal home.

Read Revelation 21:2-4 carefully and see what great plans God has for His home, His tabernacle; you and me!

“And I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He shall dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

This is God’s great promise to all the overcomers who will pay the price of following the Lord wherever He goes now in this lifetime. When the end of all our earthly trials comes, God will reveal Himself to mortal men in the earth realm through an immortal race just like the Lord Jesus Himself. These will inherit all things in heaven and earth and will be His sons as Jesus reveals Himself through them and governs through His body. “He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son” (Revelation 21:7 NAS). What a glorious future we have in God, and what a future we could give up if we turn away from following Him by rebelling against His leading.

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household (temple), having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit” (Eph 2:19-22 NAS).

We are the dwelling of God! Say this to yourself out loud so that you can hear it in your ear and into your heart. I am the dwelling of God, I am the dwelling of God, I am the dwelling of God! As a believer do you realize Who is dwelling in you? That’s how important you are to God and to others in the body of Christ, because without you we cannot be the whole body of Christ. You are an important part of the makeup of the body of God and without you we cannot be whole. Just as if your earthly body parts would want to take a day off and go live on some ones else’s body you would not be whole. Now is the time for the body of God to come together and be the united body of Christ. This will one day be said of the body of Christ in the earth, which is God’s son, the Immanuel, God with us. “At that time they shall call (the New) Jerusalem 'The Throne of the LORD,' and all the nations will be gathered to it, to (the New) Jerusalem, for the name of the LORD; nor shall they walk anymore after the stubbornness of their evil heart” (Jeremiah 3:17 NAS).

No more will mortal man walk in rebellion to God, but every person will know the Lord from the least to the greatest and righteousness will rule upon the earth and sin will be a forgotten memory in the hearts of the people. Oh what a day that will be!

“And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.” (Matt 14:35-36 NKJV).

When God walked the earth such power and glory flowed through Him to heal all the sick that came to Him by just touching the end of His garment. Can you imagine? All though this is not to hard to believe because He is the creator of all things and there is nothing to hard for Him, how could any sickness not be healed in His presence? There is nothing, no demon, no sickness, no sorrow that can stand before His mighty presence!

When the time came for His disciples to minister, again people were healed continually and some just by standing in Peter’s shadow. “To such an extent that they even carried the sick out into the streets, and laid them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came by, at least his shadow might fall on any one of them (Acts 5:15 NAS). So powerful was the presence of God on Peter’s life and the other apostles that people were getting healed just by them walking by. I have read this and questioned God on how they were able to have such power in their lives when they were so fleshly, days before the crucifixion when they were arguing among themselves as to who would be the greatest. Then one day the Lord gave me the answer when He said, “Dan, they walked with God in person for three and a half years!” Think about it for a minute, Jesus was God’s presence and glory manifesting through a human body. In other words they lived, breathed, ate, and slept in the presence of God everyday soaking up the life giving power of His presence that created the whole world and every living thing in it. How could they not have the power to heal and set people free from demon powers? Even the Pharisees took notice of the life of God in the apostles when they said, “… They were marveling, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

This is the answer for every believer as to why we do not have the power to set people free and heal them, because we simply have not taken time to soak in the presence of God as they did. This same question answers why Adam could have lived for more than nine hundred years after he had sinned, because he soaked up the life of God everyday and did not live in sin after the fall. We could speak of Enoch who got so close to God that He had to take him from the earth and bring him into the realm of God. Moses was also taken by God from the earth because he too was so full of God’s life by sitting in His presence continually in the tent of meetings as did Joshua who was used of God to destroy their enemies. How about Elisha who had so much of the power of God left in his bones when he was dead that a man was raised from the dead by just touching them! “And as they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet (2 Kings 13:21 NAS). You cannot tell me that there is nothing to spending time in the presence of God, because the Bible tells the true story of the life of God in His people.

We must come to God with a pure heart; we cannot seek God’s presence just because we want power, but because we love God and want to know Him more and more each day. God knows our hearts and motives as to why we are doing what we are doing. Let’s seek Him with a pure heart just because we can never get enough of God!

I will close this article with these true and faithful statements of God’s word again. We who are the tabernacle of God, the holy city, the New Jerusalem, the bride, and body of Jesus Christ (God) will have the honor of walking in all the manifested power of Jesus in an immortal body among mortal people. We will bring the life giving power of God to the nations, bringing deliverance from pain, crying, mourning, and finally our last enemy, death itself. This is the call and destiny of every son of God. What a bright future we have in Jesus!

“And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He shall dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away” (Revelation 21:2-4 NAS).

So be it Lord!
